Privacy Policy
Effective date: 22 September 2026
This policy explains what IGDL processes when you use it. It is short because the service is small: there are no accounts, no profiles and no sign-in.
Data we process
The only thing you give us is the Instagram link you paste. We send it to Instagram to look up the public video behind it, and for about ten minutes we keep one entry in a server-side cache: the shortcode taken from that link, together with the public post details Instagram reads back to us: the poster's username and display name, their avatar address, the caption text, and the thumbnail and video addresses, so that repeating the same request does not fetch the same page twice. The entry belongs to the shortcode, not to any visitor.
That cached entry is not attached to your name, your device or any identifier we create, because we do not create one. After ten minutes it is gone. We do not keep a history of what anyone has downloaded, and we never store the video file itself: the download normally runs directly from Instagram's delivery network to your device. In rare cases where that direct transfer fails, the file is relayed through our server to you as it arrives, without ever being written to disk.
Server logs
Our hosting provider records ordinary request logs, which include your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the time of the request. These are generated automatically by the infrastructure, are used for security and for diagnosing faults, and are retained by the provider for up to thirty days before being deleted. We do not mine them, profile them or combine them with anything else.
Cookies
IGDL sets no cookies of its own and stores nothing in your browser.
The site is funded by advertising, and third-party ad networks may set their own cookies or similar identifiers in order to select and measure ads. That happens under their policies, not ours, and we have no access to what they collect. If you want to limit it, these are the practical routes:
- Your browser settings can block third-party cookies entirely, which is the bluntest and most effective option.
- Google Ads Settings lets you turn off personalised advertising across its network.
- The Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative both run opt-out pages covering many networks at once.
- On iOS and Android, the system privacy settings include a control for limiting ad tracking.
Analytics
None at launch. No analytics script, no tag manager, no pixel and no session recording runs on this site. If that changes, this policy will be updated before the change goes live.
Third parties
Using the tool normally causes your browser to contact Instagram's servers to fetch the video. That request is between your device and Meta's infrastructure, and Meta's own privacy terms apply to it. Where that direct request fails, our server fetches the file and streams it on to you instead, which means Instagram sees our server rather than your browser. We are not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
Children
This service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since there are no accounts and no forms beyond a link box, there is nothing for a child to submit. If you believe something has been collected in error, write to us and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it. Material changes, such as adding analytics, will be described on this page rather than made quietly.
