What a carousel is, and why one link is enough
A carousel is a single Instagram post holding several slides that you swipe through sideways. It has one address, no matter which slide is on screen when you copy it, and that address describes the whole post. So there is no need to hunt for a separate link per picture: paste the one you have and every slide comes back together.
The slides are listed in exactly the order the creator published them. The first card in the grid is the cover, the last card is the final swipe, and nothing in between is shuffled, merged or skipped. A post of eight slides gives eight cards, and each card is labelled with its position so you always know which one you are holding.
Photos and videos in the same post
Plenty of carousels mix the two: a clip up front, a few stills after it, another clip at the end. Every slide comes back as its own kind. A video slide saves as an MP4 with its sound, a photo slide saves as a JPG, and each has the button that matches it. Nothing is flattened into one long file and nothing is dropped for being the wrong type.
That matters for recipe posts, tutorials and before and after sets, where the useful part is often slide four rather than the cover. You can take only the slide you came for, or work through the grid and keep the lot.
Why the grid shows small previews
Once a post has more than two slides, the result switches to a two column grid of thumbnails. Those previews are small square crops on purpose, because rendering a dozen full size images at once would make a phone crawl. The button under each thumbnail still points at the full size file, so the preview never limits what you save.
Saving a whole carousel quickly
There is no single archive for the whole post. The browser saves only what you ask it for, so each slide is its own tap and its own file. In practice that takes a few seconds: press the buttons from top to bottom and the downloads queue up behind each other while you go.
- Work through the grid in one sitting. Each button holds a signed address from Instagram that expires, so a tab left open until tomorrow needs the link pasted again.
- Make a folder for the post before you start. Every slide is named after the first line of the caption plus its number, so the set sorts together, and a folder of its own keeps it that way.
- On a phone, keep the screen on until the last file has finished, especially for video slides, which are the larger downloads.
Quality of each slide
Every photo is the largest JPEG Instagram stores for that slide, and every video is the MP4 Instagram plays for it. The files travel from Instagram to your device without being opened, resized or re-encoded here, so each slide is exactly as sharp as it is inside the app.
Carousels are often cropped to a square or a four by five frame when they are posted, and that crop is part of the stored file. What you save is the slide as it was published, not the wider original the creator started from, because the wider version is simply not on Instagram to be fetched.
Carousels this page cannot open
A carousel on a private account does not work, because the page is only visible to approved followers and this tool never signs in. A deleted post, or one blocked in your country, is refused for the same reason. Story sequences and highlights look similar, since you tap through them, but they are not carousels and they are not supported.
If the post is public and you can see it in a browser without logging in, every slide in it can be saved here. That covers the great majority of the carousels people actually want to keep.
Using the slides you save
Every slide is still the creator's work. Keeping a carousel for yourself, a recipe to cook from, a workout to follow, a set of reference pictures, is ordinary personal use. Reposting the slides to your own account as if you had made them is not, and a carousel is usually a small piece of careful editing that someone put real time into.
If the slides are going anywhere beyond your own device, credit the account by name and link back to the post, or ask the creator first. Most are happy to see their work travel when their name goes with it.
